Gaga the Gray

Gaga the Gray: india ink, red lacquer, white chalk, and graphite on rough watercolor paper, 18” x 24”

I did this image of Gaga for fun because I love Lady Gaga and I love drawing creepy fingers!

Here is my process:

sketches:

This was my first Gaga sketch that I did on an airplane. It doesn't really look like her but I was just going from memory.

These were my composition thumbnails. I wanted to focus more on her monster hands while still keeping it an angular glamor shot. (I went with the pose on top right)

And here she is 3/4 of the way finished. You can see I hadn't finished her hands yet and the shading is still pretty minimal.

And LOOK! It even got blogged about on Nicola Formichetti's tumber! He's Gaga's stylist!
