Subtracks
I've been working on this one for a while and finally finished it today. I'm throwing in my process sketches underneath to show you how I worked out the composition and colors. It's come a long way from a picture from the picture of Gwen Stefani that inspired it. The process reads up from the bottom.
I'm also submitting this as my image for Illustration Friday since a DJ "subtracts" tracks for remixes.
I took a few days off from working on it and finally arrived at a composition I liked last night.
4th sketch (where I worked out the colors digitally)
3rd sketch (a little better)
2nd sketch (not working at all)
1st sketch (this one is kind of gross)
A combination of these two images sort of gave me the general insperation for the image.

my pubilc art show
My friend Joseph set me up with a currently empty retail space on 42nd and 9th ave to put up some drawings for public viewing. I spent most of yesterday drawing these images and decorating the windows while drunk people celebrating St. Patrick's Day watched me through the window. The works were done on newsprint with charcoal and tempera paint. I don't know how long they will be up but if you would like to see them they are on the south east corner on 42nd and 9th in New York City.

IF-Legendary
I'm using this weeks subject to show off the latest job I did for "Legendary" singer Mariah Carey. This was my third job for Mimi and it was very exciting for me to work with her because I actually am a huge fan. She's a lot of fun and I listen to her music a lot. She's an undeniable talent with a great set of stems! Anyway here she is!
I was hired to create her birthday card but I cropped into the image and took a lot of elements out for the blog. To view the original card please visit my website:

HERE COMES SUMMER!!!
While I was in Rio I picked up this old lifestyle magazine from 1935. There were TONS of these magazines at the shop I went to, and I wanted them all, but they were kind of expensive so I just got this one.
The illustrations of this time are astounding! Even the small illustrations inside the magazine are of such high quality. The artists really valued good composition and did amazing things with it.
Anyway this is my homage to one of them!
I hope you like it!

Airport Doodles
So the next day I did end up making my flight to Rio and I was in Brazil for Carnival.
These are the doodles I drew on my way there....
Kate Moss was on the cover of New York Magazine so I drew this. It ended up looking like Jessica Alba but "Kate Moss" is always a good place to start when you want to draw a pretty face.
I watched The Duchess starring Keira Knightley on the plane (shes not so great at actressing but the wigs and costumes are amazing!)
Then I got a little drunk and doodled free minded and sloppy
I drew this the next day after seeing an ad for some sort of "stiletto mascara" at the duty free.
